“ I was heading toward a restaurant for dinner but it wasn't going to open for another 15 min so we stopped in here to share something.. we eat a lot... I've never been to Xi'an Famous Foods even though it's been on my list for over 10 yrs...L thought they only had lamb so he's actually really glad we got to try something.. We ordered the spicy & tingly beef muscle hand ripped noodles.. omg it was so good. It actually didn't taste spicy eating this dish at the restaurant..we ordered it reg spicy. The noodles were perfectly cooked. I could've eaten the whole thing..The beef was soft... but then after dinner we came back and ordered the beef noodle dish to go along with the Liang Pi...cold skinned noodles. Definitely eat the hand ripped noodles asap.. totally different flavor profile we tried it a hr later. I reheated it the next day and the texture of the noodles was completely different.. Tasted really spicy and the texture of the noodles got harder. Not the restaurant's fault since it is supposed to be eaten within 15 mins. Next time we'll def go to a more convenient location and eat it again at the restaurant... The cold noodles wasn't my thing...but L loved it... Would come back to this location...beef noodles were so delicious! ”
“ I lived off of their dumplings one year until the 34th St location closes. Every Tuesday, therapy and dumplings in soup. I liked their hand pulled noodles with beef as well! ”
“ If you want great, authentic Sichuan style Chinese food, don't look any further. With these great prices, Xi'an Famous Foods is the perfect spot for a quick lunch. I recommend the spicy cumin lamb noodle! ”
“ Xi'an Famous Foods is seriously worth the hype! I ordered the A1. "Liang Pi "Cold-Skin Noodles" and they were DELICIOUS. I ordered the noodles as mild, and although flavorful, I wish I would've ordered them as medium!! They have a great flavor profile and don't forget to top it with the black vinegar!! I was so impressed by these noodles and the price for the quality and portions!! My friend ordered the N2. "Spicy & Tingly Beef Muscle Hand-Ripped Noodles" and he said they were also super good!! There is a sign in store with "advice" from the owner to not order the food mild and I completely agree. The spice is an important component of this food!! The noodles came out pretty quickly and the service was super friendly. I love how there are DELICIOUS vegan and non-vegan options, making this place suitable and worth while for differing dietary needs. The restaurant itself is pretty small with small tables and stools. There is enough space to eat there, but I would prefer to take it to go! Overall, I love this place and probably serves one of the best authentic Chinese dishes in UES! ”
“ I am usually not a fan of Sichuan/peppercorn. But my sister and friend says its good! Must try! We walked on over here on a Tuesday lunch, not busy. I love not busy. LOL We ordered for take out. A1 - Cold Skin noodles - this was super yummy. It wasn't super heavy. the noodles were a good texture. The tofu skin was yummy. I'm trying to work on eating more protein so wish I could have added lamb or something to this one. But would definitely get again. N1 - Spicy cumin lamb hand ripped noodles - pretty good. but fairly heavy. The noodles were long and thick and chewy. I prefer the cold noodle better. Both were good, to me, they were spiced perfectly LOL. I wonder if we have something similar back home but it is worth the try! I'd bring my husband to try it since he likes spicy hehe. ”
“ I'm actually so in love with Xi'an Famous Foods. Not just because the founder is an alumni from my school but I feel like the food has been so consistent in flavor even as it has gotten more popular and opened more locations. I think it's one of the few NYC chains where as they get bigger, the quality is still the same as the original location. I came on a weekday night and this place was packed. - Spicy Cumin Lamb Hand-Ripped Noodles - The cumin flavor is very intense in this dish and I love the tender lamb that's in it. I also love the fact that you can customize it down to the spice level as well as the oil level. I appreciate that you can make the entire dish less oily. I will say that if you got less spicy like me, you might not be able to taste the flavors as well. - Stewed Pork Hand-Ripped Noodles - I think this is my more favorite version out of the 2 noodles because it seems a bit more soupy and I love the amount of pork they give you. The flavors are so rich so that the plain noodles can soak it all up perfectly. Overall fantastic eat in UES and NYC in general and I can't wait to come back to try more of their dishes. ”
“ I love a thick noodle, this place did not disappoint! Ordered the spicy and tingly beef muscle hand-ripped noodles and they were so delicious! Thick, chewy noodles that held the sauce well. The beef was tender and not tough to chew at all, and they were not kidding when they named this dish because it left my lips tingly for sure! Would highly recommend if you enjoy spice and thick noodles, wish I had the stomach to try some of the sides! ”
“ Stopped here after walking around central park. Even after adding so many locations it's still cheap, messy, and authentic. So much better than the xian food I can normally get in seattle. Everything we got was so good and i'd get it all again in a heartbeat. Unfortunately they were out of the spicy seitan salad or I'd have loved to try that too ”
“ Great deal when in NYC! The restaurant is nice and clean and the food comes out to you quickly. Service was kind and accommodating. I personally loved the tender lamb and spices. As a spicy food lover, it was a bit overpowering on the pallet at times, don't be surprised if your swallowing chili peppers between bites. However, tasty nonetheless! ”
“ Very fresh, tasty noodles! Had the pork noodles, the lamb dumplings, and spinach dumplings. I would love for everything to be more flavorful, but the spice around everything makes up for it I guess- ”
